Boston Bicentennial Committee Fundraisers

Auction for eight blocks pieced in the 1940’s by the Ladies Aid Society of the Everett Church of Christ.

These blocks will be on display for Silent Auction during the Hall Committee Wine & Cheese Event at the Township Hall. The Wine & Cheese Event begins at 6:00 PM at the Bicentennial Festivities at the Boston Township Hall. The winner of the auction will be announced at 8:00 PM.

LADIES AID SOCIETY OF THE EVERETT CHURCH OF CHRIST

The school house squares were made by the Ladies Aid Society of the Everett Church of Christ in the late 1940’s. The Ladies Aid Society was part of both the religious and social function of the Church. They prepared the altar and communion each Sunday. The ladies also were an arm of the social society of the hamlet of Everett. They hosted penny suppers, and ice cream socials. Very important to them were the hours spent in fellowship with each other, piecing quilt squares and then tying or quilting the quilt tops. They sold or raffled off their quilts to benefit the Children’s Christian Home of Cleveland. The Ladies Aid Society also helped to feed and clothe the needy in their community as well as others in the township. These school house squares are from the estate of Miss Ivel Kepner, postmistress of Everett, and were donated by Louise Moore, whose husband, John F. Moore, is Miss Kepner’s nephew.
